Strike Over: Teamsters, U of M Reach Tentative Contract Agreement

Umdstrikeupdate

DULUTH, Minn. – A strike at the University of Minnesota campuses ended over the weekend involving 1,400 employees with Teamsters Local 320.

At UMD, 185 employees were on strike.

The union represents employees in custodial, maintenance and food service.

While the university said they gave their “last, best and final offer” on Sept. 5, a new offer has been made that the union has agreed to.

The agreement for three years provides a 3.5 percent wage increase for year one, followed by another 3.5 percent increase year two and a 3 percent increase the final year, according to the union.

The university was originally offering a 3 percent increase year one.

A joint statement from the Teamsters and U of M reads in part:

“In the spirit of cooperation, Teamsters Local 320 and the University of Minnesota have put their differences aside and come to a resolution in order to support the greater good of our University students, faculty and staff, farmers and Minnesota residents.”

“Both parties look forward to returning to working to support our vital teaching, research, and outreach mission.”
