Lake Superior College Holds 80th Birthday Open House

DULUTH, Minn. — Lake Superior College turned back the time in order to celebrate 80 years of education.

Students, faculty, alumni, and curious community members were treated to a packed house at the campus, with dozens of booths lined up featuring various clubs and programs that the school has to offer.

Much of the theme of the event centered around the college’s founding date in 1945, as members of the school’s “Big Band” performed music from the time, and there was even food available at 40’s era prices, like hot dogs for 15 cents.

“This is home, right? This is our home, and the thing that that we treasure more than anything at Lake Superior college is our place in the community,” said LSC President Dr. Linda Kingston.

“We are blessed to be here. We are blessed to serve the community of Duluth and the communities that surround Duluth.”

The massive celebration wasn’t only a birthday party, but also a showing to potential students of what the college to do together.

“I think it’s really a testament to what we can do as a team, and this is how we approach student support as well, so we really come together to make sure students feel like they’re welcome supported through their entire educational process.” said Scott Andrews, director of financial aid at the school.

The celebration was capped by mayor Roger Reinert officially proclaiming the day as “Lake Superior College Day”, and a performance by the school’s choir.
