‘Advanced Machine Guarding Solutions’ Opens New Facility in Hibbing

HIBBING, Minn. — Advanced Machine Guarding Solutions (AMGS) has opened its new manufacturing facility in Hibbing.

AMGS manufactures equipment that is designed to protect and guard machinery.

The protective paneling, fencing, doors and other equipment keep workers and machines safe.

Equipment produced at the facility is even used to protect the machines that built it.

The new state-of-the-art facility allows for an increase in production and the creation of new jobs.

The Hibbing-based company is one of only a few in the U.S to produce machine-guarding equipment.

“It’s not just the building, it’s also what we’re building here in the automation level. I mean, this is a very sophisticated manufacturing company, but making a very simple product and bringing that product back to the US and being competitive with large European or Asian companies,” Jason Wobbema, Advanced Machine Guarding Solutions President said.

Not only does AMGS serve the greater U.S, but the facility does a lot for the local economy, from providing jobs to investing in the Iron Range.

“I think the neat thing about AMGs is the technology you need to work, you’re working with robotics, so it’s a whole new approach to the types of skill set that you need to be working up here. And hopefully we attract more and more of those type of employees. And with the mining companies having a slow down, it’s nice to see something positive moving forward,” Hibbing Mayor Pete Hyduke said.

AMGS started four years ago in Hibbing. The company quickly outgrew its smaller facility and decided to stay in the Iron Range.
