Bong Veterans Center Remembers POW/MIA During Recognition Day
SUPERIOR, Wis. — The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center is currently hosting an event to honor the nation’s prisoners of war and those missing in action.
The event, which runs from Sept. 19, to Sept. 21, will feature a “Missing Man Table,” a ceremonial tribute to remember POWs, MIAs, and fallen service members.
Members from the American Legion Post 435 will be on hand to speak about the table’s symbolism during the ceremony, followed by a guest speaker.
“It’s to give people the opportunity to think about and memorialize and remember those that are missing in action and that we’re still here and we’re still thinking about them,” said Bong Center Executive Director John Gidley.
The program begins at 12:45 pm with a Table Ceremony conducted by Post Commander Butch Leibert. The ceremony will last 15 minutes. Starting at 1 pm, Historian Abby Allcox will deliver a presentation on the POW camps that operated in Wisconsin during WWII.
