VA awards $5.5 million to help Minnesota Veterans at risk of homelessness
The Department of Veterans Affairs is providing more than $5.5 million to support Veterans in Minnesota who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their homes.
The Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans will receive over $5 million through the VA’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families program. The funding will help Veterans access housing and housing counseling, healthcare, financial planning, childcare, legal assistance, and transportation.
Judith Johnson-Mekota, interim director of Veterans Integrated Service Network 23, says these services are key to preventing homelessness and providing stability for Veterans and their families.
This grant is part of more than $818 million nationwide that the VA is awarding in fiscal year 2026 to support Veterans at risk of homelessness.
Funding decisions consider the organization’s experience, past performance, and the needs of the local community.
