DULUTH, Min. – Duluth Police say Demetrius Norwood, 36, Duluth shot at a woman he was trying to form a relationship with.

He then allegedly rammed his car into two squad cars that responded to the shooting.

According to charging documents on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 Norwood went on a mid day date with the victim.

Norwood then “went out with his friends to go drinking”.

The plan was for the two to meet up later in the evening.

The documents said Norwood showed up at the victim’s home when she was running errands.  Norwood allegedly called the victim while he was at the victim’s home, accusing her of cheating on him.

The victim then arrived home and Norwood allegedly, “started running towards [the victim’s vehicle] and said her was going to kill her.  He lifted up his hands to shoot her… [the victim] sped away in her vehicle.”  Norwood then allegedly shot at the victim twice.  He missed both shots.

It happened a few blocks away from the intersection of N. Central Ave and Grand Avenue.

Duluth Police Officers arrived on scene to speak to shooting witnesses.  Police documents say when officers were talking to witness, “[Norwood] came back to the scene driving in a fast manner… and rammed his car into two squad cars that were parked on the street.”

Officers say they removed Norwood from his car at gun point to “an overwhelming odor of alcohol” coming from Norwood.  Norwood was described as staggering, could not walk straight, and had slurred speech.

Officers said once Norwood was removed from his vehicle, they discovered a nearly empty 200ml bottle of alcohol in the cup holder, plus a 9mm handgun with a round in the chamber.

Officers say they discovered two fired 9mm casing in the area where Norwood allegedly shot at the victim.

Norwood is now facing charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm, damage to property and DWI.

His bail or bond has been initially set at $150,000.
