UMD Football Not Looking Past Southwest Minnesota State in Week 6 Meeting
Saturday's contest will mark the 39th time that the Mustangs and the Bulldogs have clashed.
DULUTH, Minn.- Another weekend and another victory for the UMD football team as they were able to get the best of MSU-Moorhead, 28 to 14 this past Saturday.
The Bulldogs had success in all three phases of the game.
Quarterback Kyle Walljasper took over in the 3rd and 4th quarter with two total touchdowns, including the go-ahead one.
The UMD defense held the Dragons to just 12 rushing yards and forced three interceptions.
Lastly, Drew Henson had two crucial kicks, including a 52 yarder.
Now, UMD turns their attention to a hungry Southwest Minnesota State squad, that’s won just one of their first four games.
“I think every week should be a focus on ourselves and making sure that we’re getting better. You know you respect every opponent that you’re going to play. Southwest has had their struggles this year. We’ll talk about that as a team as well to make sure our guys understand every opponent that we’re going to face and what we’re anticipating seeing. For us, this is about us getting better one week at a time, one game at a time. I think that’s the neat thing about this year’s group. Our guys have played hungry every single snap of the season so far, which has put us in the spot that we’re in right now,” said head coach Curt Wiese.
In last year’s meeting UMD wideout DeShaun Ames put up Randy Moss like stats against the Mustangs as he had 3 catches, 2 touchdowns, and 138 receiving yards in a 62 to 0 UMD win.
“They’re not bad. It’s a team in our conference obviously. We have one of the best conferences. So, you can take anyone lightly. We’re just going to come out here and do Bulldog football like we always do,” said Ames.
Saturday’s contest will mark the 39th time that the Mustangs and the Bulldogs have clashed. UMD holds control of the head-to-head with 30 total victories.
Kickoff is at noon.
