Governor Tony Evers Speaks After Recent Retirement Announcement

ASHLAND, Wiss. – The meeting highlights the importance of West CAP’s work to provide the essential services while showcasing Governor Evers’ efforts in the 2025-27 Biennial Budget to lower everyday costs of working families and individuals across the state.

“Poverty would be 11% of Wisconsin households. That kind of old description of an extremely low-income household, where Alice so they’re working asset-limited, kind of living on a survival budget, is 24% of the Wisconsin population,” said an unidentified attendee. “So that’s 35% of households really struggling to afford their basic cost of living.”

The basic costs of living for those struggling include housing, child care, food, transportation, health care, taxes, and other miscellaneous costs. Governor Evers focused the 2025-27 Biennial Budget on lowering the costs of energy bills, cutting taxes for working families and retirees, expanding access to quality, affordable health care, and stabilizing Wisconsin’s child care industry.

“As of tomorrow, sales tax on utilities will no longer be there, and that will help everybody, but certainly will help those that struggle financially or have issues around their utilities, maybe making sure that they’re in a good place,” said Governor Evers.
