UMD Volleyball Aims to Keep Perfect Home Record Alive Against Mary & Minot

Since 2013, the Bulldogs are a perfect 28-0 combined against the Marauders and Beavers.

DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD volleyball team had to work the whole way through this past weekend as they went to five sets in both games against Wayne State and Augustana.

In the first contest against the Wildcats, the Bulldogs were just four points away from the victory but Wayne rallied to hand UMD their first loss of the season.

The following day, they bounced back with the victory over the Vikings.

Head Coach Jim Boos says yes it hurts to lose from time to time but it can be a positive thing as well preparing for the next matchup.

“This team has yet to show that they’re not going to continue to battle and grind and work their butts off. You know we’ve been in these moments now multiple times. We’ve already been to five sets four matchups out of our first 12 and we’ve come out on top three of them. That’s an area we weren’t that strong in last year. We’ve been able to defend our home court, which is an area we weren’t as strong in last year. I think this group is showing a lot of resiliency,” said Boos.

As Coach Boos mentioned, UMD has protected Romano Gym all season long with a perfect 6-0 record. They’ll look to make it eight with matches against Mary and Minot.

“We started out strong the first two sets of this past weekend and I think carrying that into this weekend will be very beneficial. Just carrying our momentum into that 3rd and hopefully not 4th or 5th sets. But, just keeping strong right from the get go,” added Madeline Guetzkow.

Since 2013, the Bulldogs are a perfect 28-0 combined against the Marauders and Beavers.

UMD will first take on UMary on Friday at 6 PM. Then they’ll clash with Minot at 11 AM on Saturday.
