National Guard Veteran Retires After 30 Years

DULUTH, Minn. — A Proctor native, retiring from the Minnesota National Guard after thirty years of service, and beginning a new chapter serving as the Executive Director of the Minnesota Department of Military Affairs.

Army Col. Scott Rohweder is a veteran of deployments to Bosnia and Iraq. He commanded Soldiers at every level and is the recipient of a variety of awards. During his service as the Chief of Staff of the Minnesota National Guard, he provided strategic guidance, daily oversight for all major Guard operations across the state, and Col. Rohweder helped the Minnesota National Guard rank in the top five nationally within all readiness and recruiting metrics.

“My whole family served in the military,” said Col. Rohweder.  “My grandparents, my father served the military, all my uncles, a lot of my friends served. So for me, it was a it was a very important piece, you know, growing up in the community, that that I grew up in service to your country, service to your community, was always something that I felt like it was my responsibility to do and something I wanted to do to be a part of something bigger than myself.”

Colonel Rohweder stands as the most senior civilian member of DMA and now oversees daily operations, legislative coordination, and long-range planning.
