#4 UMD Women’s Hockey to Clash with #1 Wisconsin in WCHA Opener

UMD will try for their first win in Madison since December of 2023.

DULUTH, Minn.- For the 2nd straight season, the UMD women’s hockey team will open up WCHA play against the top ranked team in the nation.

Last year, the Bulldogs swept Ohio State and this year they’ll try to do it against Wisconsin.

UMD has struggled in recent years against the Badgers.

In their last 10 meetings, the Bulldogs have only come away with two wins. They also were winless in 2024 and 2025 with Wisconsin taking all five meetings.

Head Coach Laura Schuler detailed what it’s going to take for her team to be able to go to 5-0 on the year.

“Being able to play with pace. Speed and pace is going to be really important. Again, our habits are going to be really important in the details of what we play with. A lot of newness on our team and we expect to make mistakes. But again, mistakes are always okay in my book as long as we’re trying to do what we need to do to be successful,” said Schuler.

“Very fast paced like there’s no time to take any time off. Just making sure that we’re staying consistent, sticking to our gameplan,” added Danielle Burgen.

UMD will try for their first win in Madison since December of 2023. Puck drop is at 11 AM on Saturday.
