UMD Men’s Hockey & Augustana Set for First-Ever Matchup

The Vikings are currently in their 3rd season as a division one program.

DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD men’s hockey team returns home after a successful 2-0 weekend against Alaska Fairbanks.

The Bulldogs now turn their attention to a Augustana squad, who they’ve never played before.

The Vikings are currently in their 3rd season as a division one program.

However, head coach Scott Sandelin says not to look past the fresh D1 squad.

“They’re going to be very very competitive, near the top of the CCHA I think by the time the year is done. I think that’s going to be no different moving forward in that league. It’s no different than playing the Mankato’s or Bemidji’s, teams that are good hockey teams. You want good competition and this weekend will be good competition,” said Sandelin.

“You’re kind of still preparing like you’re playing anybody that you’ve played a million times. You just have to go through your routine the same way. Coaches do a good job of preparing us for things they do and things we have to look for,” added Ty Hanson.

Augustana went 4-2 against NCHC opponents last year. Puck drop for game one is Friday at 7:07 PM.
