UMD Football Returns From Bye Week to Battle UMary
UMD is 17-0 all-time against UMary.
DULUTH, Minn.- It’s back to work for the UMD football team as they return from their bye week this upcoming Saturday to take on UMary at home.
The Bulldogs have been chomping at the bit since their last time out. UMD is coming off their lone loss of the year, a 34 to 31 defeat at the hands of Northern State.
Now, it’s onto a team that they’ve won all 17 meetings against.
The Marauders come into the contest with a 3-4 record.
Head Coach Curt Wiese says not to read too much into the past, adding that Mary can play with anyone in the conference.
“I think they’re a much improved football team. They’ve taken a couple teams in our league that are at the top of our conference right now, right down to the wire. They’re 3-3 coming into this football game and I think it’s a much improved football team that we need to be better this week and not have some of the same mistakes that we had last week come back and bite us,” said Wiese.
UMD defensive back Tyrone McCoy was one of the leaders for the defense last time out. He had 7 tackles, 2 tackles for losses, and one sack against the Wolves.
He says he’s focusing on one thing to hopefully have another big week.
“Watching film and watching their offense, they’re more of a run team. I feel like our defense is a real run defense, like we can stop the run and they like to pass it or what not. But I feel like our back end we’re pretty good in that aspect of the game as well. But the one thing I’m not really worried about is the run game. Our team is ready to stop the run game and ready to fight,” said McCoy.
In the two teams last meeting in Duluth, UMD shut out Mary by 46 in 2023.
The Bulldogs have also outscored the Marauders 278 to 63 in their last five home meetings.
Kickoff is at noon on Saturday.
