Knowing Your Neighbor: April Ugstad

WEST DULUTH, MINN- April Ugstad has been crocheting for 20years. She said, it started when she was 18years old working at a ticket booth for a movie theater.  Ugstad would crochet in between movies while she was bored. From crocheting hats for family and friends she started crocheting dolls. “Somebody sent me an inspo picture of a Freddy Kruger cat and they seen it online. And so I made it and sold it for their little boy because they were obsessed with Freddy Kruger.” Says Ugstad.

After losing her job during the Pandemic, she started selling dolls as a side business. She calls it, “Creepy Cute Crafts.” Ugstad goes on to say that she likes to bring joy to other people. She likes being challenged by other requests such as Mario and Luigi and Ozzy Osbourne.

If you’re someone wanting to start crocheting it’s never too late or early to start.  Ugstad says, “We all have to start from somewhere.”
