Two dead in wrong way crash on Highway 53 in Amnicon

UPDATE:  The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office say two people were killed in the head-on collision.

It happened at 2:12pm on October 22, 2025.

A vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes between Berg Park Rd. and Kent Rd. collided head-on with a southbound vehicle.

The victims were the drivers and sole occupants of the vehicles.

Identification is withheld pending notifications.

AMNICON, Wis. — A portion of Highway 53 is closed due to a major crash.

According to officials, Highway 53 Southbound at Berg Park Rd in Amnicon will be closed while crews investigate and clean up a major crash scene.

Traffic will be redirected to the exit at County Hwy E Southbound on E back to US 53.

Officials say the closure is estimated to last two hours.
