CHUM Urgently Seeks Food Donations as SNAP Benefits Pause Impacts Families
DULUTH, Minn.– With many families around the Twin Ports relying on snap benefits to stay ahead, the recent changes have begun to impact local resources.
With the news of the SNAP program benefits being put on pause, food shelves are in crunch time.
Chum officials told FOX 21 they help out around 300 people weekly.
That number increases daily, with 7 to 12 new people needing assistance every day.
At this time, they are calling for support in the community to keep up with this demand.
“I just talked to a family who receives $800 a month, and now they don’t get anything. So that’s so scary, like, how are they going to provide what are they going to do, you know? And just to know where we’re located and what we can do for them is our main concentration right now,” said April Ledoux, Director of Distributive Services, CHUM.
Chum is seeking out donations ranging from fresh produce to pantry staples.
For additional support, there are numerous food pantries around the Duluth area.
CHUM is open Monday-Friday from 7 AM to 3 PM for donations.
Our Savior’s Church at 4831 Grand Avenue in Duluth has a food shelf open on Mondays from 10-11:30 AM.
