UMD Football to Travel to Play Jamestown in First-Ever Meeting
Jamestown joined the NSIC back in July.
DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD football team bounced back this past Saturday, picking up a 54 to 32 victory to remain unbeaten all-time against UMary.
Now, the Bulldogs shift their attention to a first-time opponent.
UMD will make their way to Jamestown, North Dakotato meet the Jimmies, who just joined the NSIC conference in July.
In their debut season, Jamestown has posted just a 1-6 record, with their lone win against Concordia-St. Paul.
Head Coach Curt Wiese says he always embraces facing fresh competition.
“It’s always fun to be able to play an opponent that you haven’t seen before, be able to go to a city that you haven’t been able to see before. We want to welcome Jamestown to the conference. They’ve won a game in our conference and it’s a opponent not a lot different than the rest of ours. We have to make sure we take them serious. That we continue to build as a program, get better towards the end of the season here. Jamestown is a program that continues to try build what they’re doing right now. It hasn’t shown up in their win and loss record but they do a good job offensively and defensively,” said Wiese.
In Saturday’s win over UMary, UMD tight end Luke Dehnicke had a career-day as he hauled in four touchdowns for 230 yards. Which he says is not possible without the work he and his QB Kyle Walljasper have built over the last 7 months.
“I think a lot of it was from spring ball. The receiver room had some injuries so we got really close throwing wise. In the summer, we were throwing almost every day. Just developed a really good connection there,” added Dehnicke.
UMD received some good news on Monday as they were among the 10 teams under consideration in the first NCAA Super Region 3 rankings.
They hope to strengthen their case Saturday at 1 PM at Charlotte and Gordon Stadium.
