UMD Women’s Hockey Tasked with Facing New Coach & Potential Roster Absences in SCSU Series
The Bulldogs have dominated the head-to-head in recent years as they'll take an unbeaten 10-game streak into Friday's matchup.
DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD women’s hockey team will continue conference play with a bout against St. Cloud State this upcoming weekend.
The Bulldogs have dominated the head-to-head in recent years as they’ll take an unbeaten 10-game streak into Friday’s matchup.
Something different this time around though is the Huskies have a new head coach and UMD may be without their starting goaltender Eve Gascon, who’s with Team Canada as she vies for a Olympic team spot. Caitlin Kraemer is also at Team Canada’s camp.
“She’s a great coach, good person, very agressive coach in terms of her style of play as well. So, that’s what I’m looking forward to is two teams going at really hard this weekend in a back and forth hockey game,” said head coach Laura Schuler.
“Growing up Southwest playing hockey, you’re always the enemy to other people so unfortunately I’ve been there a lot. Especially playing boys as a female goaltender, you’re the enemy to a lot of people. So that’s not territory that I’m used to it, I welcome it, and I’m excited for it,” added goaltender Sophia Villanueva.
Game one is Friday at 2 PM.
