Prescribed burn on Wisconsin Point to start next week

SUPERIOR, Wis. — A prescribed burn is set to take place on Wisconsin Point next week.

The burn is scheduled for either Monday or Tuesday,  if weather and burning conditions are favorable.

The Wisconsin Point Ishkode Planning Team says the burn will happen near the bird sanctuary on the bay side of the point alongside the road.

Planning Team is composed of representatives from the sovereign Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, the city of Superior, the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve, and The Nature Conservancy.

This area was chosen because it shows signs of fires in the past and requires little preparation for the burn.

A public viewing will be held at Bunge Dock in Superior when the exact date of the burn is decided.
