Carlton County to update Comprehensive Plan

CARLTON, Minn. — Carlton County has started the process of updating the County’s Comprehensive Plan.

The last plan was adopted in 2001, the new plan will focus on the future of the county over the next 20 years.

The comprehensive plan will address housing, infrastructure, economic development, resources, tourism and more.

Community feedback will be gathered through a website and interactive mapping tools will be used to develop the plan.

The process is expected to take a year, with the county board adopting the new plan in fall 2026.

“We are interested in hearing from community residents and businesses about what has and has not been working for them over the past couple of decades, and how they would like to see the county move forward for the next couple of decades with land use planning,” Chris Berg, Zoning and Environmental Services Administrator for Carlton County said.

The plan will be a product of the community, with input events taking place, including a business workshop and a public kick-off event planned for December.
