Five Local Football Teams Learn First Round State Opponents

The State Quarterfinal rounds kickoff on Thursday and Friday. 

DULUTH, Minn.- Last week, five local football teams punched their ticket to the state tournament.

Over the weekend, they learned who their first-round state opponent will be.

In the Class AAAA Tournament, Grand Rapids earned the top seed in the north region.

The Thunderhawks will face Benilde-St. Margaret in the quarterfinal round.

Over in the Class AA tournament, Moose Lake/ Willow River earned the three seed and will square off against Eden Valley-Watkins.

In Class A, Barnum kicks off their first state appearance since 2012, taking on the top-seeded Breckenridge.

In the 9-player bracket, Cook County will face Kittson County Central while Cromwell-Wright takes on Fertile-Beltrami.
