UWS Men’s Soccer Draws St. Olaf in First Round of NCAA Tournament

SUPERIOR, Wis.- For the 9th consecutive season, the UWS men’s soccer team is NCAA tournament bound.
The Yellowjackets earned an automatic bid with their 2 to 1 overtime victory over Bethany Lutheran in the UMAC championship game this past Saturday.
Earlier Monday morning, UWS learned who their first-round opponent will be.
They will travel to Northfield Minnesota to take on the fourth ranked team in the country in St. Olaf, who went 16-2-and-3.
One of the two losses the Oles had this season was from UWS.
The two teams squared off back in September, where the Yellowjackets won 3 to 2.
Now that it’s NCAA tournament time, the Yellowjackets understand the importance of sticking together as one throughout their push for a national championship.
“We’re not going to look at this as a six game stretch we are trying to tackle, it comes down to who is next on our schedule and right now that’s St. Olaf. I think one of the most powerful explosive offenses, they have a lot of experience when it comes to the NCAA tournament,” said UWS head coach Joe Mooney.
“The games coming up and the opponents will change every game. But our team stays the same throughout the whole thing,” said UWS midfielder Isaac Becket. “Making sure that everyone knows it’s just another game of football. That we’re going to go out there to try and win, the same as we have done all season.”
The Yellowjackets first-round match against the Oles is on Saturday, November 15th.
Kickoff is at 11 a.m.
