Gascon & Kraemer Set to Return for #5 UMD Women’s Hockey in Series at St. Thomas

Last season, the Tommies were able to pick up their first two wins in the all-time series against UMD.

DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD women’s hockey team is back to work as they return from their bye to take on 15th ranked St. Thomas.

Last season, the Tommies were able to pick up their first two wins in the all-time series against UMD as the two teams eventually split the season series.

Those meetings are still fresh on the mind of UMD head coach Laura Schuler, who’s been preaching to her team this week to put in the extra effort.

“Very, very well structured team and we’re going to have to earn it. Last year we split with them. So, this year we’re coming in with a vengance. But, everything we have to earn because they’re such a good structured team. We can’t be afraid of doing the work,” said Schuler.

The Bulldogs also get a boost in the starting lineup as goaltender Eve Gascon and forward Caitlin Kraemer return from playing for team Canada in the rivalry series.

“A really good experience. I think the nerves of the first game, it was just so hard to stay focused at first but I think after that it was like you just have to play your game. At the end of the day, it’s just hockey and we knew we were able to be on that level,” said Gascon.

The Bulldogs first game at the new Lee and Penny Anderson Arena is Saturday. Game one though is Friday at 5 PM.
