Filipovich announces run for State Auditor

DULUTH, Minn. — Former Duluth City Councilor Zack Filipovich wants to make a return to politicsĀ as Minnesota State Auditor.

Filipovich announced his campaign launch today at the Duluth Labor Temple. He says he’s ready to work for small governments across the state after serving two terms as an At-Large city councilor in Duluth, advocating for regional economic development, and spending more than a decade working in public finance.

“State Auditor really connects with local communities, and so I want to use my experience as an accountant not only to help local communities prevent fraud, but help those local leaders with the data, tools, training that they need to make the best decisions for their own communities,” said Filipovich.

There are five other candidates so far who are running for state auditor. Three democrats, two republicans, and one is from the Northland.

  • Ben Schierer, former mayor of Fergus Falls
  • Dan Wolgamott, state representative from District 14B (2019-present)
  • Adam Jennings, incumbent mayor of Tonka Bay
  • Zack Filipovich, former Duluth City Councilor
  • Nate George, mayor of Braham
  • Elliott Engen, state representative from district 36A (2023-present)
