CHUM distributing 300 Thanksgiving dinners throughout the week
DULUTH, Minn.– Since June, CHUM has been planning and organizing their plan to give over 300 Northlanders a Thanksgiving dinner.
Around fifteen volunteers gathered at our Saviors Lutheran Church for the distribution.
Most of their canned goods came from donations from churches and schools around the area.
Each family will receive a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, canned fruits and veggies, and of course a pumpkin pie.
Despite the community’s generosity, chum officials telling us, with soaring prices it’s extra valuable.
“Just to being able to provide a turkey, it’s expensive. Pies are expensive, everything, and for the price of food has risen so much. So just to be able to provide a nice box for Thanksgiving and have them be able to have a meal for their family is everything,” said April Ledoux, Director of Distributive Services, CHUM.
The meals are available for anyone and first come first serve.
Between Monday and Wednesday, 300 meals will be dished out.
CHUM officials told FOX 21, every volunteer plays a crucial role.
“The volunteers are our rock stars. Without them, we would just be lost. I mean, we have UDAC volunteers that make all the boxes too, like all of our volunteers that we have, like the A team. They’re like an older group of ladies that come in, and they kick so much butt to pack all the boxes,” added LeDoux.
We’re told that this year, CHUM has extra turkeys available.
They’ll continue to pass them out individually once the meals are gone.
Wednesday’s distribution will take place at the CHUM food shelf 120 N 1st Ave W, Duluth.
