Coffee Conversation: “A 1940’s Radio Christmas Carol” brings holiday spirit to Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. — Boat Club Productions is bringing a little nostalgia to the Northland this holiday season. “A 1940’s Radio Christmas Carol” opens this Thursday at the Spirit of the North Theatre inside the Fitger’s Complex.

John Ryde-Crane, who plays Isadore “Buzz” Crenshaw, and Keith Russell, who takes on the role of Clifton Feddington, joined FOX 21 live in studio.

Set on Christmas Eve, 1943, the story follows the Feddington Players — a radio troupe broadcasting from a cramped Newark studio.

Their attempt to perform a live radio version of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol quickly spirals into chaos thanks to missed cues, technical glitches, and an eccentric veteran actor who begins mixing his own life with the classic tale.

The production features original period-style music and swing arrangements of holiday favorites, creating a mix of comedy, drama, and old-fashioned Christmas charm.

The show runs December 4–14, 2025 with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Performances are held on the third floor of Fitger’s at the Spirit of the North Theatre.
