UW-Superior music celebrates annual “Season of Song” holiday concert
SUPERIOR, Wis. — A musical Twin Ports holiday tradition happened once again in Superior as UW-Superior’s “Season of Song” concert held its final performance of season.
The performances all taking place at The Cathedral of Christ the King Church, with saw hundreds of people braving notable poor weather to make it to the annual event.
The concert caps the Fall semester at the school, and is a favorite of both attendees and singers alike.
“It’s a time that we all just get to get together (and) work really, really hard on the same thing,” said Sami Mathieu-Amikoon, a senior music student with the UWS chorale. “Because earlier in the year we’re always going to each other’s concerts, but this concert is everybody all together, so it’s just one of those fun things that we get to share.”
For singers performing in their final “Season of Song”, the bonds made during these special concerts will last a lifetime.
“All the warmth, all the memories, I just hope to carry my colleagues with me even outside of college and just be able to keep in touch with them, because that’s really what this is about, is community, so much community,” said Mathieu-Amikoon, who sang in the cathedral for the final time during the performance.
While certain members take their leave of the space, new ones were welcomed in as, for the first time starting this year, UWS was joined by singers from Superior High School for the winter tradition.
