Winter Solstice On The Way!

We have all noticed the days getting shorter, and the nights getting soooo long. That, is soon about to change! The Winter Solstice arrives at 9:03 am on Sunday, December 21st. The shortest day of the year, and the longest night of the year. Many people celebrate the Winter Solstice. It can be a time of reflection, a time of rebirth, a time to look back on the year, and a time to ‘start over.’ Those are all good things. And the best of all….the days start to get longer on December 22nd. But, not very quickly. For the first few days, we only gain a few seconds of daylight each day. By January, we start to gain minutes a day, on both the sunrise and the sunset. And by late January, the days finally feel longer, again.

But first, we have to get through this weekend. A warm front will pass over us Friday night, warming us up to 20 degrees by 4am on Saturday morning. Then, a strong cold front will come racing in from the northwest, making our temps do a nosedive, and our winds get very strong, from the west and northwest, up to 30mph, as we go thru the day on Saturday. By late Saturday night (Sunday morning) we’ll be down to about -8, and our high on Sunday will only be about 12 degrees.

Heading into the workweek, things improve quickly, as our high Monday will reach 28. And by Christmas Day, we’ll have some sunshine, a chance for light snow, and a high of 34. That sounds like a pretty good Christmas present, to me.

Have a Wonderful Winter Solstice!
