Lake Superior “Zoo Lights” in final weekend
DULUTH, Minn. — The last weekend before Christmas marks the final time this holiday season that the Lake Superior Zoo’s “Zoo Lights” will be up for visitors to the zoo.
The annual holiday tradition lets zoo-goers walk around the complex to see the “larger than life” critters along the paths, then head inside the zoo’s “Primate Conservation Center” to warm up.
No matter how hard the weather may try, temperatures haven’t kept Twin Ports residents away from their favorite animals either.
“Saturday (Dec. 20) is the last night of ‘Zoo Lights’, a more kind of mellow holiday celebration, slower, but still here to make some crafts, we’ve got some choirs, and so another way to see and engage with our animals in a unique, and maybe a slower environment that’s also a different time of day for them,” said the zoo’s Interim Executive Director Noah Hobbs.
In the holiday spirit the zoo even announced, just before the lights turned on for the final weekend, that for the rest of December, kids 12 and under will get to see all the wintery animals for free.
“One visit to the Lake Superior Zoo or Minnesota Zoo or Como (Zoo) can really change a young person’s life and their choices that they choose, whether it’s school or education, furthering that or their career choice, but that’s really what we’re hoping for here, to bring more folks out engage with the natural world,” said Hobbs
Dec. 20 is the final night of the year to catch the zoo’s Christmas lights, with tickets being $10 for non-members, which are available on the zoo’s website.
