Treecycling drop-off sites are open
DULUTH, Minn. — Resource Renew’s Treecycling program opened up over the past weekend.
Drop-off locations have been set up around the area.
People can just drop off their Christmas trees free of charge for composting.
Because they can only process organic material, the tree must be real and not flocked.
Wreaths, garlands and other evergreen decorations made with wire cannot be donated.
“Trees are a resource. So, after we have enjoyed them, they can live on in other ways, and we turn them into compost. And so, we use the organic matter in the trees, the nutrients, to help be a soil amendment that we helps our gardens be healthier, and our plants grow throughout the summer.” said Dori Decker, Sustainability Specialist.
Drop offs must be free of all decorations including tinsel.
If you’re switching out for new string lights or just have some old ones, the Materials Recovery Center in Duluth can recycle old string lights.
