Minnesota Power presents grant to Hartley Nature Center

DULUTH, Minn. — Minnesota Power showed their support for the Hartley Nature Center with the presentation of a new grant for the center.

The gift is for $6,000, and will be used to help build classroom enhancements, which will help support the center’s outdoor education for thousands of area students and their families,
many of which have their own roots at Minnesota Power.

“We have about 1,100 to 1,200 employees in and around this region, and all of our families utilize and leverage the beautiful spaces that our region provides, and Hartley Nature Center is one of those premier locations where young children like my own were able to come and learn, spend time, play and experience the outdoors in a very important way,” said Minnesota Power’s Vice President of Strategy and Planning Julie Pierce.

While the improvements to the classrooms will primarily benefit the students, the center also takes pride in opening up these spaces for the whole community.

“Serving our programs is really important, but we want to make sure that the space is accessible for our community as well, so that we can also serve the community groups and the public,” said Amy Demmers, the center’s executive director.

“So this really allows us to be able to expand our accessibility to everyone, to be able to use this very, very special space.”

The $6,000 comes as a part of the Minnesota Power Foundation’s grant applications, which non-profits can apply for on Minnesota Power’s website
