Animal Allies shares successful adoption tips

DULUTH, Minn. — As the holidays come to a close, some people may realize that a well-intended gift came with more responsibility than expected.

Those irresistible puppies and kittens can lead to impulsive decisions, especially during the holidays. Animal Allies in Duluth works year-round to promote successful pet adoptions and shared tips on surrender prevention.

“So we, yeah, really discourage adopting for somebody else that is outside of your home, it’s a big undertaking, and it’s a really important decision. So keeping all of that in mind leads to a lot more successful adoptions,” said Nicole Facciotto, Adoption Manager, Animal Allies.

If you find yourself receiving a pet for Christmas, remaining patient is crucial as the animal adjusts to its new environment.

Facciotto added, “it can take almost three months for an animal to fully settle into your home environment. So, really giving them that time to settle in, working through their quirks, getting to know their personality, so that you can be the best owner for them is really important.”

The shelter is currently running an adoption promotion through the end of this year to help their furry friends find a forever home.
