Mesabi Humane Society to stop accepting animals from the City of Virginia

VIRGINIA, Minn. — The Mesabi Humane Society says it is no longer accepting animals from the City of Virginia.

MHS recently put out a statement on their Facebook page saying, “The Mesabi Humane Society values its long-standing partnership with the City of Virginia. However, effective immediately, MHS will no longer be accepting animals from the City of Virginia. This decision follows the City’s formal notice, rescinding the previously agreed-upon per-animal intake fee. Without a valid agreement or reimbursement structure that covers the actual cost of care, MHS cannot continue to accept animals from the City of Virginia.”

The Humane Society says it will continue to serve surrounding communities, with whom it maintains active contracts. If you require animal assistance, contact the Virginia Police Department.
