Allegiant and Sun Country combine to form ‘leisure-focused airline’

Allegiant And Sun Country Merge

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Airlines Allegiant and Sun Country have combined to form what officials say is a “leisure-focused airline.”

Allegiant will acquire Sun Country in a cash and stock transaction valued around $1.5 billion.

With access to Sun Country’s international network, the combined airline will offer current Allegiant customers access to expanded service from its small and mid-sized cities to 18 international destinations.

“Our businesses are strategically aligned; together, we will have more resources, greater flexibility, to further strengthen our important role in North America’s leisure travel market,” said Alligent Ceo, Greg Anderson.

Passengers can expect more affordable fares, more nonstop flights to underserved markets and an enhanced loyalty program.

Until the transaction closes, the airlines will continue to operate independently and there will be no changes to flight schedules or existing reservations.
