Man arrested for burglarizing Bentleyville, over $2,000 worth of merchandise stolen

Court documents allege John James Carter, 47, of Duluth stole a change machine from the Bentleyville gift shop.
The statement of probable cause says on December 26, 2026 at about 2:30am a man and woman were seen around the Bentleyville gift shop.
The male entered the gift shop structure “by cutting a hole in the side of the building.”
He stole a change machine valued at about $2,000. The machine had about $90 inside.
Police say Carter was wearing “a very unique and identifiable jacket.”
The charging documents say police about one week later saw Carter wearing that jacket.
He was then arrested on January 9, 2026. He made his first appearance in court on January 12, 2026.
Court documents say Carter admitted to the crime.
He’ll next be in court on February 3.
Carter is officially charged with 3rd degree burglary.

Duluth, Minn. — A 47- year old man has been arrested for allegedly robbing Bentleyville in late December.
According to Duluth Police the burglary happened on December 26, when a man broke into the gift shop and stole items worth over $2,000.
The gift shop was badly damaged, and repair costs are estimated to be in the hundreds of dollars
The man, arrested on January 9, is booked on pending charges of 3rd Degree Burglary.
