Senator Klobuchar taking first step in running for Governor
ST. PAUL, Min. – Senator Amy Klobuchar has filed with the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board to form a committee for a Minnesota Gubernatorial campaign.
While this is not officially filling to run for the office, it is seen as the first step.
The filing made on January 22, 2026 with the Campaign Finance Board named the candidate, committee chair, and treasure for the campaign.
Klobuchar, 65, was first elected to the United States Senate in 2006. Prior to that election she was the Hennepin County Attorney.
In her four statewide general elections, Klobuchar has garnered at least 56% of the vote each time.
Less than four months after announcing his reelection campaign, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said that he could no longer devote the energy necessary to win another term.
Within hours of Walz announcing he would not run, it was rumored Senator Klobuchar was interested in the Gubernatorial post.
