SWL&P plans to replace water filters

SwlpSUPERIOR, Wis. — Superior Water Light and Power is hoping to make some upgrades.

They filed an application with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to replace their water filters.

2.5 million gallons of water go through their four filters daily before being sent throughout the city.

If the project is approved, they’ll replace two at a time, so it doesn’t impact customers.

“We hired a firm to come in and really do an analysis of the filter media and the surrounding structures that support it, so that that analysis has been done, which really made the determination that we need to do a full replacement of the filters.” Joscelyn Skandel, Director of Compliance, Regulatory and Customer programs.

The water is safe and it’s expected to remain safe throughout the process.

They test it frequently in accordance with regulations.

Pending approval, they hope to start construction mid-summer this year and finishing in 2027.

The current estimated cost is $4.9 million.
