DULUTH, Minn. –  The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says there have been numerous reports of scammers calling people claiming they had won a Publishers Clearing House prize.

The calls have been made within the past week.

Scammers are claiming the person won a cash sum and often a brand-new vehicle.  The caller then requests that they send money to cover fees in order to receive their winnings.

They attempt to get these fees through gift cards or wire transfers.

The Sheriff’s Office urges residents not to send any money and not to provide any personal information if requested over the phone.
