#7 UMD Men’s Hockey Making Lone Trip to Denver to Battle #11 Pioneers
UMD's last win in Denver came in February of 2023.
DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD men’s hockey team will continue their gauntlet of a schedule by taking their lone trip to Denver this weekend.
Barring a playoff series, this will be the only time this year that the Bulldogs and the Pioneers will do battle.
Lately things have been on Denver’s side as they’ve won eight out of the last 10 meetings.
When looking at the matchup ahead, UMD head coach Scott Sandelin sees a team just like his.
“You have to play a real simple direct game. You have to take care of pucks. You have to win the special teams game, faceoffs we need to be better. You have to play, gotta play and again. The Denver team that’s there is not any different. They’re going through their things too right? They’re trying to find it, they have a younger team too,” said Sandelin.
“Lately we’ve been letting up a couple more goals than we’ve liked. That’s what we focused on a lot was our d-zone. So, it’s going to be a good test for us to bear down on that and shut those guys down when we can,” added defenseman Aaron Pionk.
