Cass Lake couple killed in train vs car collision
FARDEN TOWNSHIP, Minn. — Two people are dead following a train vs car collision in Farden Township.
According to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened on January 30 around 10 a.m.
Officials say they received a call from a train conductor of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad who said that the train just hit a car at the Hubbard County Road 101 crossing.
Upon arrival, emergency services found 61-year-old Douglas Stewart of Cass Lake and his wife, 42-year-old Tiffany Stewart, dead in their car.
According to officals the couple was travelling south on Hubbard County Road 101 when they stopped at the sign for the railroad tracks.
The train was travelling west, and as it approached the intersection, the car attempted to cross the tracks and was hit.
The incident is under investigation.
