Spirit Mountain celebrates opening of Highline chair lift

SpiritDULUTH, Minn. — Spirit Mountain celebrated the opening of its new Highline Chair lift on Thursday.

The lift was a 4.4-million-dollar project, which was a smaller part of the larger $26 million dollar Spirit Mountain Restoration Project.

“We are so fortunate to have owners who are willing to make these kinds of investments, and we know we have to perform, but we are. We know that this is a part of a team effort, and we’re proud to be part of the team. So, thank you for that,” said Ann Glumac, Executive Director.

The new lift replaces two lifts that were over 50 years old.

It will provide a more comfortable ride while reducing maintenance and operating costs.

“As we all know, Duluth can be a tough place to visit in the winter, but Spirit Mountain, being one of the top three ski areas in the Midwest, really attracts customers. The skiing here is it’s just wonderful. The staff does a fantastic job.” said Scott Neustel, Generational Owner of Ski Hut.

They commemorated the opening by sending three groups up the lift.

The first group was kids to represent the future, the second was long-time pass holders to represent the history, and the third was the patrollers as a way to thank them for keeping the hills safe.
