Duluth City Council discusses 2 ICE-related resolutions

DULUTH, Minn. — The Duluth City Council discussed two ICE-related resolutions.

One resolution sought to clarify the communication and enforcement relationship between Duluth and the federal government regarding civil immigration laws. Another, urging Governor Tim Walz to issue an emergency order creating temporary statewide housing protections for families affected by the metro surge.

“This is an opportunity to us for this kind of slow down, gain some clarity and provide a foundation to say this is who we are as a city,” said Jordon Johnson, councilor for the City of Duluth. “This is where we stand. This is our relationship regards to federal civil immigration law and how can we move forward from here.”

The City Council approved the resolution clarifying Duluth’s relationship with ICE, but tabled the resolution urging Governor Walz to issue an emergency order.
