Lyric Opera of the North kicks off rotunda series

DULUTH, Minn. — Lyric Opera of the North, or LOON, was chosen as Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert’s 2026 Artist in Residence.

It was the first installment of the year-long residency, which includes an installation in the mayor’s reception room and monthly lunchtime concerts in the rotunda.

The first singers of the year were LOON’S General Artistic Directors, Cal Metts and Sarah Lawrence. They were singing love songs in honor of Valentines Day this Saturday.

“We love an opportunity like this to be in a beautiful room with maybe a new audience, and maybe people who weren’t even expecting this, but happen to be here for whatever reason, and then they get to hear a little music. It’s really great,” Lawrence said.

The next installment of the residency takes place on March 6, with LOON’S touring company performing parts from “The Elixir of Love.”
