ASHLAND, Wis.– Governor Evers visited Ashland Thursday to address what he is calling a cost-of-living problem across the state.

The governor met with numerous community members to talk about how it is becoming a growing issue.

Attendees expressed the need for increasing k-12 school funding, and prioritizing safe, clean, drinking water.

This follows a legislative agenda letter, urging legislators to pass a bipartisan state budget.

The plan is to lower out of pocket costs, with a 1.3-billion-dollar property tax relief plan.

Governor Evers said, he’s confident this can happen, but it’s still a work in progress.

“One of the easiest ones, obviously, is to lower property taxes by having the state, you know, pay more to the schools or more to the municipalities. So that’s being discussed right now in Madison. Hopefully we’ll come to some conclusion, but that’s just, you know, that’s just the beginning,” said Governor Tony Evers.

While in Ashland, Evers said it was made clear that healthcare, and affordability issues raise the most concern.

“I want to make sure that I reflect what I’ve hear hearing across the state and simple things, and this one in particular, the healthcare, has to do with Washington, DC. They can fix it. They should fix,” said Evers.

Governor Evers will make more stops across the state to talk about these issues.

He said, the in-person conversations make his job more efficient.
