USW Next Gen Committee holds book drive for Kids, Teens
DULUTH, Minn. — United Steel Workers Local 9460 has a new initiative to support literacy and learning.
Throughout February and March, the Next Gen Committee is holding a book drive.
They are collecting new and gently used books aimed for children and teens.
Donated books will be distributed to area Essentia Health locations.
Kids will be able to browse in waiting rooms and take books home with them.
“Reading is such an important thing and it affects young children, and we want the younger generation to get the education and the tools that they need through books, so people come in all the time and they’re waiting. They don’t have anything to do. Sometimes a book can go a long way,” said Susan Wagner-Thomas, USW Local 9460 president.
Books can be dropped off at The Labor Temple and the following Essentia Health locations:
- Lakewalk Clinic – 1502 London Rd
- West Duluth Clinic – 4212 Grand Ave
- Lakeside Clinic – 4612 E Superior St
- Hermantown Clinic – 4855 W Arrowhead Rd
- Duluth 1″ Street building – 420 E 1st St
- Duluth 2 Street building – 502 E 2nd St
- Duluth 3′ Street building -400 E 3rd St
- St Mary’s Superior – 3500 Tower Ave
- Amberwing – 615 Pecan Ave

They also have a link for donors to buy new books from a wish list that will be shipped directly to the Labor temple.
