Unoccupied snowmobile causes serious crash near Canyon

CANYON, Minn. – An unoccupied snowmobile is being blamed for a crash that seriously injured another rider.

The crash was reported around 4:15 p.m. Saturday on Trail 51 near Canyon, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.

A 58-year-old man was leading a group of snowmobilers when he encountered the empty snowmobile parked on the trail.

The man was thrown from his machine while trying to avoid the crash, according to authorities.

He was life-flighted to a hospital with those serious injuries.
