The popular Soul Food Night returns to UMD
DULUTH, Minn. — Smooth jazz and the aroma of soul food brought life to the University of Minnesota Duluth over the weekend.
The college’s Black Student Association hosted the annual Soul Food Night, transforming the evening into a celebration of African American Culture. This year’s event was Harlem-themed. People enjoyed an open speech, poetry, a jazz band, and dancing. Soul Food Night is a long-standing tradition that has sold out for over 20 years.
“I mean, it’s just such a time to come together, not only with UMD students, but with community members. We have a lot of community members that buy soul food tickets at the door, or weeks and events emailing us to tell us to reserve seats for them,” said Ilma Ntambwe, treasurer of the Black Student Association.
Beyond Soul Food Night, the Black Student Association brings the campus together year-round through events ranging from volleyball games to fashion shows.
