Northern Lights Girls Basketball Team host grocery bagging fundraiser

DULUTH, Minn. — The Northern Lights Girls Basketball Team held its grocery bagging fundraiser at Super One.

Since 1996, the organization’s main focus has been ensuring that every player can compete and improve regardless of financial circumstances. To make this possible, the program hosts fundraisers to help cover fees for families who need assistance, keeping basketball accessible to all.

“We’ve never turned away a family who aren’t able to pay for basketball,” said Adam Johnson, program director and coach at Northern Lights Basketball. “The fact that all these kids and families are willing to come out and work hard to help build the program and help support other families. It means the world to us.”

The young athletes say it feels good to help each other out in times of need.

“I would feel like, very like, grateful and happy that I have good friends that would want me to be on the team and like afford and pay for it to have fun and get better overall,” said Estella Marline, player for the Northern Lights Girls Basketball Team.

The organization says it raised $1,300, which will support families who need help covering basketball fees in the spring and summer.
