Hundreds celebrate silver medalists Cory and Korey
DULUTH, Minn. — Hundreds packed the DECC to celebrate mixed doubles curling silver medalists Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin.
The welcome home party began with a grand entrance, filling the room with the sounds of bagpipes. Roger Reinert even declared Friday, Feb. 27, as “Korey and Cory Day” in honor of the Olympians. It was a night filled with photo-ops, hugs, and plenty of catching up with friends, family, and supporters. The celebration honored more than just a podium finish.
“Just so proud of the two of them, and they’re just good ambassadors of the game,” said Linda Christensen, Mother of Cory Thiesse. “They train hard, they work hard. They do strength training and mental training. And it’s not just throwing the rocks anymore. It’s, it’s, it’s a full circle.”
After becoming the first Americans to medal in mixed doubles and Cory Thiesse being the first American woman to medal in curling, the pair have their sights on the podium again at the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps.
