Superior Mayor releases report after police department investigation
SUPERIOR, Wis. — Superior Mayor Jim Paine released an investigative report regarding allegations of misconduct within the Superior Police Department.
The findings come after a third party firm, the OIR Groups, looked at collateral and systemic issues within the department.
The city hired the firm after an internal investigation into police investigator Mikayla LeRette alleging “attendance violations, tardiness, insubordination and theft or misuse of public funds.”
Lerette followed up with a lawsuit against the police department for the way that investigation was handled.
Thursday evening, Mayor Jim Paine provided a comprehensive overview of the OIR report, outlined its findings and answered question from members of the Public Safety Committee.
“All of the accusations against all of the persons named here are unsubstantiated. There was no finding of wrongdoing against any police officers. That is the top line finding of this investigation,” Mayor Paine said.
While the OIR Group found no evidence of misconduct by any police officers, and all allegations remain unsubstantiated they did identify areas for improvement in departmental policies and practices.
